Located on the central beach, it is close to allservices normally needed. The apartment was built on early sixties, and has more than 3 meters "right foot". Parking spaces were not a great need, at that time. We have two garages close by, but not inside, the condominium. The apartment is still used by the family and decoration was designed to our family´s needs, that we share with yours.
It has new technological appliances, but some wall decoration and furniture are with the family through generations. We ask you to take special care of them. The 48" TV is connected to a roku. We do not have air conditioning by choice. The air circulation is unique. There are ceiling fans in all rooms and the "righ foot" and no high buildings in the back, make the difference! Check pictures!
The beach is less than a block away. It is provided beach service: chairs and umbrella. You can sleep, listening the waves breaking. When it is not a high touristic time, you can feel the peace and easiness of the caiçara´s way of life.. If you want more experience with caiçaras, go to "prainha Branca", near the ferryboat to Bertioga or to Diana island, taking a public boat, that leaves from down town Santos.
One side of Guaruja´s island is on the Santos´ estuary. The connection is by ferry boat and buses. Santos is the main city of the metropolitan area, with colonial history going back to the period of "capitanias hereditárias". It has interesting historical sites, intense cultural life, universities and a strong social movement. The closest Indigenous land are: Silveiras in Bertioga and Tekoa Mirim, in Praia Grande , both Guarani,
There are interesting things to do in Guaruja: aquarium, gazebo, trails, jesuitic church ruins, the sustainable island of Arvoredos; forts: Barra Grande, Andradas and Itapema, aquatic sports, surfing school, and so on...
Come for long stays! For home office or leisure, it will be a great pleasure to wellcome you and your family!
I first came to Guaruja as a young child, during the nineteen fifties. We first went to un uncle´s house in Enseada beach. Later, the two families bought apartments here in Pitangueiras. I was already a teenager when I discovered that white sandy beaches were just one type of the many existent. At that time, a great adventure was riding a bus to Vicente de Carvalho and taking a boat to downtown Santos to visit the Monte Serrat church, at the top of th hill.
My mother became a widow and never wanted to leave Pitangueiras and the apartment because it was easy to come and all workers were always very helpfull . Some of them never worked in any other place . This friendly environment took us through hard times in Guaruja, when the sideboard deteriorated and violence grew.
My family has an academic tradition related to University teaching and research. I have worked in a research institution called Instituto de Economia Agricola related to the State Agriculture Department. My interest was related to social and environmental issues. Now that I am retired I am developing a cultural heritage project in Baixada Santista. I work with a Biosphere Reserve(UNESCO program) caracterized by the strong urban and industrial impact. This is my new connection with Guaruja and the apartment.
The apartment belogs to me and my only sister. I have two merried sons and two beautifull grandsons. We come to the apartment now and then, but for much shorter times than we used to come. . This is why I am trying to share with families our love story with the "pearl island" , the Baixada Santista area and the apartment. You are not only renting a place to stay, you are also being invited to share our way of life. Enjoy Caiçara´s hospitability, respect, easiness and solidarity. Values changing fast in our society. Wellcome to nature´s silence and peacefulness during low touristic season! Enjoy busy touristic life style , if it pleases you and your family...
The island of Santo Amaro, where Guaruja is located is an easy place to stay. Very close to São Paulo, it can be reached by very modern roads. It is part of Santo´s Metropolitan area . Sambaquis are the ancient cultural heritage , related to occupation before the native brazilians: tupi and guarani. São Vicente, is considered to be the first brazilian village in the years fifteen hundred. There is a reconstruction of the old village with theater presentations, all year round. It can be reached through Santos by ferry boat. If you prefer cosmopolitan areas, your choice is Santos but if you prefer more wild and protected areas look for APA do Guararu in Guaruja or reach Bertioga by another ferryboat. There are several historical places to visit. Guaruja´s history is very much related to Santos and the port. During the 1950 it was the resort for the paulista upper class. From than on, it is been increasingly used by other social segments. Pitangueiras beach was first occupied by few stone houses, but last century, during the sixties, buildings. like Nautillus, were built. It has several touristics trails organized by small business. You can go to Protected Areas Units and even visit resettlemets of Guaranis on protected territories: like Silveiras in Bertioga ,Do you like to watch birds? You can get assistance at Vila da Mata, in Bertioga. Do you like boats? it is possible to rent in many marines specially around the local protected area of Guararu Hills. We will be glad to help you on organizing your visit,
