Our History Who We Are: The Térrabas Brörán The origin of the Brörán, the native name of the Térrabas, means "fermented corn dough" (mojoso). The Térrabas belong to the Chibchan linguistic and cultural family, just like other indigenous peoples living in southern Costa Rica. Studies indicate that these indigenous communities have been present in the region for approximately 5,000 years, developing knowledge and techniques in agriculture, astronomy, science, fishing, maritime routes, and the manipulation of materials such as gold, clay, mud, and stone spheres. One of their most significant struggles has been the fight for indigenous autonomy and the revitalization of their ancestral language.
