Located in some of Bornholm's most beautiful nature, Sænehus Homestead (in Danish: "Husmandssted") has been around for at least 300 years. The main building was erected in 1898. A "husmand" was a person working on some other farm; his homestead was only big enough to support a small family, a few sheep, perhaps a cow and a horse, some chicken and not much more. They weren't self-sufficient; the homestead was only an addition to some other form of income.
I was born here and grew up in this house. What a place! Can you imagine what it was like for a little boy to run around in Sænehus' forest; to build cabins, go fishing, sailing, to cook your own food over an open fire, go camping right in your own backyard, play ‘cowboys and indians’ with classmates? I did it all – and I loved it. I still love it – so when my father moved to an old folks’ home, I decided to take over the house, refurbish it completely and open it up to others, so they too can enjoy this special place.
I do hope you will like it here, it is indeed an amazing place.

Hello, we are Liisi, Elisabeth and Kristian von Wowern and we are the hosts of Sænehus Husmandssted.
Kristian is born and raised in this house so we know what a lovely home it is. We have since moved to Estonia where we now live - and after refurbishing Sænehus we decided to open it up for guests. Explore this website to see what the house offers – and then come and see it in the real world. We are looking forward to welcoming you to our holiday home.
Neighborhood:
Bornholm's largest landmark and tourist attraction is Hammershus castle ruin from the early 1200s. Hammershus is located 1 km from Sænehus and has a modern visitor's center with info, souvenir shop and cafe. Hammerhavn harbor with its little beach and lovely swimming spot, cafe and boating facilities is 250 meters away. Same distance away is Lake Opal which offers Denmark's longest zip-line and amazing rock-climbing cliffs. Walking along Hammersø lake, which is full of fish, lovely Sandvig village is a mere kilometer away and offers cafes and restaurants, a splendid beach and a very picturesque little harbor. Hiking from Hammerhavn to Sandvig along the coastal northern tip of Bornholm is definitely recommended! The entire area is criss-crossed with hiking trails through a gorgeous nature.
A visit to nearby Moseløkken Stenbrudsmuseum is also highly recommended. It is a hands-on museum that shows how Bornholm's stone industry worked in the old days, using hammer and chisel.
Getting around:
A bus stop is located 250 meters from Sænehus, just walk up the hill to the main road. Busses will take you to most major towns on Bornholm.
There are well-marked hiking and biking trails all over the area which is very interesting due to its hilly and rocky nature, seen mainly only in this part of Bornholm.
EV charging is available at the parking lot right across the road from our house.
