Casa de Bello (Beautiful House) nestles in the countryside, just 10 minutes from the southern Catalan city of Tortosa. The stunning Els Ports mountain range to the north and west create a dramatic backdrop to our artisan Bed and Breakfast accommodation.
The house itself has been sympathetically modernised over the last few years with beautifully decorated bedrooms and en-suites. There are 4 large double rooms available, 2 with ground floor and private garden area access, and 2 on the first floor with shared access to a large balcony/terrace. There is also a BBQ area which guests are welcome to use, and a large dining room for guests' breakfast. You are welcome to use all of the communal areas, swimming pool and grounds (kitchen excluded).
Carol and Keith have been hosting for many years and love meeting new guests. Casa de Bello is also a great place for privacy and relaxation should you need to simply have some down time. Whatever suits you, suits us. We have two friendly dogs who can be kept away from guests or join in, again, whichever our guests prefer. The focus of Casa de Bello is relaxation, relaxation and relaxation in the peace and tranquility surrounding this lovely old farmhouse. The casa sits in two hectares of almond, olive and carob groves and is entirely off-grid. We have a substantial solar powered system capable of running the entire house and our own well with super-clean fresh water drawn from over a 100m depth which has been tested and far exceeds all European standards. The beaches of Sant Carles de la Rapita are the closest, just 20 minutes away and full of lively bars, restaurants, beach bars and a pretty port. There are also the clear blue waters of L’Ampolla and L’Ametlla de Mar just slightly further north at 30 to 35 mins away, great for snorkelling and generally chilling out.
We are happy to advise on the best sightseeing destinations and transport locally and are always here to help.
If you’re looking to ‘escape to the country’, Casa de Bello is the perfect place. For those who want to explore, there is so much to offer locally including Tortosa itself. It has a vast and impressive history, with its imposing cathedral and ancient city walls and gardens, and recently opened excavated Roman site - plus banks, shops, bars and restaurants, with the Ebro River running through its heart.
We encourage our Bed and Breakfast guests to make the most of their stay with us by using it as a fantastic base to visit the many local attractions, beautiful hillside towns such as Miravet with its potteries, crafts and castle or Morella with its pretty winding street shops and breath-taking basilica. Local beaches include L'Ampolla, Cap Roig, El Perello, Vinaros and La Rapita and many more. We can recommend the hot springs and a dip at La Fontcalda or the caves at Benifallet, and a visit to El parrizal/Baceite and the mountain walk from Arnes is unmissable. There are also many cycling, mountain biking and hiking trails in the Els Ports mountains - with some of the best routes in Spain.
There is also the UNESCO biosphere reserve of the Ebro Delta. Take a drive or ride through the rice fields and spend a day bird watching – everything from marsh harriers to huge flocks of flamingos co-exist here and if you are a keen twitcher, you will not be disappointed. The Delta also has many restaurants and beautiful beaches from Riumar to the salt mines along from Trabucador.
Take a ride or drive up through the mountains to Mount Caro, the highest of the Els Ports range, or take a ride or walk up the Via Verde route, stopping for a cold drink at the old Benifallet Station. The Via Verde follows the river upstream from Tortosa, turning inland through the mountains just before Gandesa, through the picturesque wine growing region of Terra Alta, eventually finishing in Alcaniz. We have bikes for hire, just ask. Everything is easy to access from Casa de Bello.
