Hippu is a cozy chalet located close to the cross country ski tracks and Ylläs Ski resort. You can enjoy the Finnish Lapland, with sights of nearby fells rising in the distance between the trees.
I frequently enjoy the great outdoors in Lapland myself through hiking and cross-country skiing and I’m happy to offer the same opportunity for my guests.
Ylläs boasts a vast cross-country ski network of 300 km of trails in the most beautiful northern landscape in Finland. You can access ski trails directly from the chalet. During winter, the most profound experience is skiing and admiring the pink polar night sky with surrounding fells rising in the background. Sweet bakery treats and hot juice at the wilderness cafés along the ski trails taste exceptionally good in cold weather.
Ylläs is by far the largest ski resort in Finland. Almost half of the 62 slopes in Ylläs are over one kilometre long. There are eight slopes that are over two kilometres long, while the longest slopes are over three kilometres. The total mileage of slopes is 53 kilometres, and the difference in altitude is up to 464 metres. The ski resort is located in the immediate vicinity of the beautiful Pallas-Yllästunturi National Park, which skiers can admire from the top of Ylläs, at 719 metres above sea level. Two main villages, Äkäslompolo and Ylläsjärvi, are located on different sides of the Ylläs fell. You can move between the different sides either by crossing the fell on your skis or snowboard, or by taking the scenic route on the Ski Bus.
The closest ski bus stop from Hippu Chalet is at Hotel Ylläskaltio where you can also purchase tickets to the ski lifts.
There are several wonderful restaurants in Äkäslompolo within walking distance, and grocery store Jounin Kauppa provides local delicacies only 2 km from the chalet.
