The accommodation is a typical mid-sized French town house. Located close to very good selection of commercial and pleasure amenities around the town. Cool during the summer, with a peaceful aspect. A small garden to the rear, which allows access to safe walking down to the source of the Boutonne river and Chateau Javarzay. The house is over 100 years old so you will hear some floor board creeks. That said, the house provides a quiet haven for relaxation. There is medium sized garden area, which can be used and is a cool place to sit in the evenings. Although there is free WiFi the rooms are simply a restful environment technology free. The delights of a peaceful stay is what is offered. This is a dog friendly house with a dog bed available and ease of access to the garden area. There three medium size dogs and two cats at the property. Although not a significant issue or reported by customers, efforts are made daily to ensure the cat odours and kept to a minimum. ( one guest report of the odours in five years of being open). With marvellous safe walks around the town, and essentially because it is adjacent to some of the best French countryside, which is mainly farm land, your stay here should be a peaceful one. A friendly and calm place to stay, Chambre D'hote Woody is a great place to recharge your energy and to de-stress.

Having retired early from an engineering career, my interest is very much with bird watching, riding my bike and family. Although not a fluent French speaker active learning is taking place ! The community here are curious, friendly and very open. The spring / summer festivals are many and you will never be short of things to do in this region. Since the age of 16, travel has been an important part of my life, so meeting people continues to be important to me. Listening to the many stories and life experiences that people bring is a valuable way of understanding and learning for me.

Adequate parking is available on the street or close by. Situated in a great location for access to wonderful countryside walks, bike rides and in easy reach of the Atlantic coast. Certainly friendly, the house is peaceful and allows for a restful stay. There is a lake and museum at the Chateau Javarzay, which is enclosed by a large public space and has public toilets facilities and a childrens' play area. There is also a public swimming pool within an easy short walk from the accommodation. The source of the Boutonne river can be found a few minutes walk from the house. A local market is held in the square on Saturday mornings and is adjacent to the cafe / bars / restaurants in the main square.
