Property information

Gaillands North is a unique place to stay for one very good reason: the enormous, south-facing roof-top terrace that looks up on Mont Blanc. As far as views go in Chamonix, this apartment has arguably the best there is, with an uninterrupted view up on to the rock and ice walls of the Aiguille du Midi, Mont Blanc du Tacul and then the summit of Mt Blanc itself. At night you can watch climbers ascending the slopes by torchlight, as you sip martinis, chuck another sausage on the BBQ and relax in the comfy chairs. By day you can bronze yourself on the sun loungers, or down below on the lawn by the lake, or relax under the shade of the awning. There are even a set of binoculars in the apartment for you to study the incredible intricacies of the complex mountain faces that tower in front of you. The living area is huge too, and sleeps an extra three people if required, meaning we can actually accommodate up to seven people here in two doubles, a double sofa bed and a single bed. Despite the older building that the apartment is housed in, this recently-renovated penthouse apartment is our favourite in the Chamonix valley and guests return to it year after year.

Neighbourhood information

Les Gaillands is on the outskirts of Chamonix town and is a fantastic place to stay on holiday. If the huge rooftop terrace isn’t perfect enough, you have full use of the large lawn that borders the tranquil lake behind the apartment. Just 100m from the apartment are the Lac des Gaillands fishing lake and the famous Les Gaillands rock climbing cliff – a flat and grassy family-friendly area where you can picnic with the kids, play outdoor games and climb the bolted climbs in the sunshine. One of the best aerial ropeways in the Chamonix valley starts here and there is even a café for drinks and ice-creams! There are also abundant walking paths that take you along the valley floor or up high in to the mountains. Just opposite the apartment is Hotel Le Vert where you can find great food, beer and most of the big sporting events being shown on a large HD projector. Hotel Le Vert also hosts music, comedy and talk nights and there is always plenty going on there. Chamonix town centre is ten minutes walk away and you can take a quiet back road rather than walking the main road.
