La Jagée is a 17th century manor house on 2 hectares of park. We are at the end of a private road in a quiet and secluded position. The house is filled with our collection of Australian Indigenous art. There are examples in every room to enliven the spaces and provide a link with our former country. We believe the collection to be one of the most extensive in Europe outside museums. We provide a comfortable and welcoming home from which you can explore the wonderful Loire Valley, and are happy to provide you with information and to make reservations or suggest destinations. We are also happy to provide Dinners for a supplement if given 24 hours notice. Our library contains mostly books in English many about the artists in our collection for you to peruse in our comfortable sitting room or in your own room's sitting area. Your room is 22m2 excluding the generous bathroom, and contains a 4m2 king size bed with fine bed linen. Gowns and slippers provided.
We are an Australian couple who are delighted to have moved to France to live. We collect the contemporary art of the indigenes of Australia and are happy to have many walls on which to hang some of it. We have an extensive art library and are happy to discuss the paintings and the artists. Food and wine are of course extremely important to any true francophone and we are no exception. We love cooking and eating and drinking and will enjoy sharing our table with you if you so desire for a three course meal. We need to have advanced notice of this in order to lay in supplies and of course prices are seasonal. We are happy to provide you with a memorable stay so if there's anything you would like to know or do please just ask.
La Jagée is secluded but not isolated with only a 20 minute stroll or 3 minute drive from the lovely village of Azay-le-Rideau with it's extraordinarily beautiful chateau and gardens. We are also close to the wonderful gardens of Villandry and the beautiful town of Chinon, its fortress and its fabulous wines. Azay-le-rideau has several restaurants and cafés/Bars. Other nearby attractions (apart from the wineries) are the Chateaux de Langeais, d'Ussé and de l'Islette. The TGV from Paris to Tours takes 55 minutes and we are a 25 minute drive from Tours. Close enough for a weekend trip. Car hire is available from both the Tours railway stations the closest being St Pierre des corps. The closest Airport is Tours Val de Loire 30km.
