La Ruche (the beehive) is a rustic french farmhouse set in a quiet rural location surrounded by stunning panoramic countryside views. The 'North' and 'South' rooms offer ensuite kingsize beds, equipped with tea & coffee making facilities, hairdryers, fans, heaters, free wifi and a TV free streaming service. The 'North Room' can also offer a double sofabed for younger family members at an additional cost. Microwave and fridge available for your use. Please note that this is a character property and some parts of the bedrooms (particularly the North room) have low ceilings. Please contact me if you have any queries on this. Our guests are also welcome to enjoy the large fenced garden, free on-site car parking with a secure garage to house bikes, motorbikes or sports equipment. Dogs are welcome at the property subject to prior approval with the host. We are also able to offer some additional services such as use of a washing machine, bike repairs, packed lunches etc - some may incur a small charge. Please contact the host to arrange any additional requests.
Mark retired here to enjoy a much more laid back and peaceful life. A keen cyclist, walker and bee keeper who enjoys many outdoor activities. He shares La Ruche with his beloved Boxer dogs, Branna & Brea
Situated in the Charente region in southwest France, 'La Ruche' is only 19 minutes drive from the country town of Ruffec (and the N10 motorway). Located next to a small micro brewery (CharentAles), it is surrounded by many beautiful french villages offering great local cuisine as well as some more traditional European food, such as Le Canton at Longré and l’Etoile d’Or at Villefagnan, both of which are very popular with the locals. There is also a bar/epicerie in the village of Paizay Naudouin. . There are many beautiful cycling & walking routes around the area. The host would be very happy to assist you in planning your days out. The nearest of the large towns are Angouleme (35 miles) and Cognac (33 miles) with the beautiful beaches of La Rochelle within a 1.5 hour drive. (69 miles). Other attractions can include local markets, Bric a brac emporiums, historic towns and our own local roman villa site at Embourie.
