I love walking in the mountains, all living things, and creating stuff. I am a people person but equally, enjoy my own company and respect other people's privacy. Our guest house has been carefully designed to provide you with peace and tranquility and the freedom to come and go as you please, with your hosts on hand if you need us.
We are just outside the walls of an unspoiled medieval village, nestled in a valley below the Canigou mountain. There is a mainline train station, from where you can travel to Perpignan for 1 euro, and on to the coast, for another, or up into the mountains on the famous Train Jaune; 1 euro buses follow similar routes. Please note, when booking train tickets that our station is called "Villefranche-Vernet-les-bains" and is 10 minutes level walk from the village. Les Chambres Chouettes is another 10 minutes walk, through the village and out the other side, or 15 minutes walk, directly from the train station, via a pretty path that follows the train line and the river, which is mostly level but a little rough for wheelie cases. Please note, if you require transport from the station to Les Chambres Chouettes, you will need to book a taxi in advance, as there are no taxis at the station.
There is plenty to explore in the village itself, with restaurants, bars, takeaways and shops, and the town ramparts. There are at least 4 scenic hikes from our doorstep, including Fort Liberia and the Chapelle Notre-Dame de Vie, and many more a short car or bus ride away. For a village of around 230 residents, we have much to offer and are a mixed bunch of very friendly people!
