The Gatehouse is a holiday home that is situated within the grounds of our petit chateau. The River Bandiat runs past our property & is 10 mètres away from the Gatehouse, there is a stone wall & fencing which separates the river from the property so it is safe for young children. The property has a private garden and the old Forge stands within the garden of the Gatehouse, the Forge is believed to date back to possibly 1650 and it is an historical industrial building which is registered with the French Patrimone, the Forge was used to produce canons and canon balls and also produced the iron for King Charles the 1st sword and for Queen Charlottes sword, we have been informed that our Forge is unique to this region. The interior of the property has stone walls and mainly white painted furniture, you will find a fully equipped kitchen for all your self catering needs, a comfortable living room area with TV & blue ray player, board games, toys for children, DVDs, books, and we have outdoor toys for children. A welcome pack awaits your arrival which consists of a baguette, milk, tea, coffee, sugar, small packet of butter and packet of cheese, wine, fresh eggs if the girls have obliged
Dave and I love to welcome guests to our holiday home, it’s lovely to meet people from other parts of the world and we really want guests to enjoy their stay with us. The evening before our guests depart we invite them up to the main house for a farewell drink or apéros as it is called in France, (we had to put this gesture on hold during restrictions due to government guidelines, but now that there are no restrictions we are happy to once again invite guests to join us for farewell drinks if guests are happy to do so.
We are located in a small hamlet in the commune of Feuillade which is surrounded by fields & beautiful scenery which includes sunflowers, the River Bandiat flows from our property through to the main village. There is a restaurant in the village which is an ideal place to sit & have a coffee or beer & food is served lunchtimes or on a Friday & Saturday evening, also offers take away pizza at weekends. We are about 22km from Angoulême which is a vibrant city which has museums, art exhibitions, cartoon festival to name a few. We are also within easy reach of Cognac, Bergerac. Another really lovely place to visit is Brantome, locally known as the Venice of the Charente, here you can hire canoes, go for a boat ride, visit the Abbey and eat in the restaurants along the river. There are water parks, golf course, pony trekking, archery within easy reach from us and plenty of walking/cycling paths as well, plenty of markets, brocantes. There are numerous beautiful chateaus to visit also. Throughout July and August in the evening, holiday makers can join the locals at the producers night market, this consists of purchasing food from the farmers & eating & drinking in the village square,
