We’ve loved coming to this modern eco house a walk from the surf beach of PorthTowan for the last 10 years. Our children loved the beach and playground on the sand dunes as toddlers and as teenagers they now love the waves - whether body boarding or surfing and visiting the natural tidal pool at low tide. We can also walk onto the south west coastal path which gives stunning views along the coast.
PorthTowan has a couple of bars serving food on the edge of the sand dunes as well as a beach cafe, beach shop, surf shop, fish and chip shop and village store. We have been known to hunker down and not stray very far with all this at our feet!
The house is on a modern development of 28 eco houses. It’s semi detached and has 4 bedrooms and 3 bathrooms. One of the en-suite bedrooms is downstairs which is a particular favourite with multi generational families or also beloved by teens who want their own space. There is a further en-suite bedroom (king) upstairs and two further bedrooms which share the family bathroom. One of those is a bunk room and the other can either be configured with twin beds or with a king bed.
There is a travel cot and high chair on request (cot bedding not provided).
We’ve tried throughout to make sure the little touches are thought of which make the house comfortable to be in. So there’s a welly rack outside and a drying line on the back of the house.
The development has communal outdoor showers for washing sandy feet and cleaning your wetsuit.
The decor throughout is modern.
My family (with three kids) and I have loved spending time in Porthtowan for the last ten years. Now teenagers and loving the surf, they enjoyed the beach equally as very young kids exploring the rock pools. Whilst I always intend to cook when we’re there, we always get drawn into the beachside eateries!
We still use the house ourselves several weeks a year (across the seasons) which helps us know when some maintenance needs doing so we can keep the house as comfortable as possible for our guests.
Porthtowan beach is a walk downhill. We can also easily walk onto the south west coastal path, our favourite being the walk to Chapel Porth. Porthtowan is known for being a surf beach but there are separate designated areas, thanks to lifeguards, for surfing and for bodyboarding/wave jumping.
At low tide there are rockpools to explore and a natural tidal swimming pool in the rocks.
There are two pubs which serve food on the edge of the dunes, as well as a beach cafe, beach shop, surf shop, fish and chip shop and village store.
There is also a playground on the edge of the sand dunes.
You can walk to the above downhill from our house. It is a semi detached house on a development of 28 eco houses.
