Stay at the birth place of Joseph Rowntree, the famous York confectioner and philanthropist! Joseph Rowntree was born at this property in 1836 above the original family run Rowntree shop which is now a Pizza Hut Restaurant. This Victorian Grade II listed building located on Pavement in the centre of York opposite the Shambles, has recently been fully restored to its former glory including the restoration of a beautiful wrought iron stair case spiralling up to the third floor, which would have been used by the Rowntree family. This apartment is located on the uppermost third floor so the property might not be suitable for everybody, but does have the advantage that you could not be in a more central location.

We chose the property due to its location and connection to the Rowntree family as the Tower Guest House was built for the Rowntree doctor. We live locally, just a 10 min walk from the apartment so we are always on hand to address any issues that might arise. We want you to have a wonderful experience at the Rowntree House apartment.

Step out into the medieval Lady Peckett's Yard, (A popular place for the ghost walks!) and onto Pavement, so called for being the first paved street in York. You'll find the famous Shambles just a stones throw away filled with the many little craft and tea shops. From here, you are just minutes away from all of York's major attractions such as the Minster, Jorvik Viking Centre and Castle Musuem. Restaurants and cafés are all just yards away! M&S Food Hall is across the street and a Sainsburys Local within a hundred metres.You couldn't wish for a more central location. Please remember that there is no private parking so you will have to use one of the nearby municipal car parks. The nearest is the secure 24 hour Shambles car park, just three minutes walk away. You can pre-book prior to arrival which works out cheaper.
