The traditional seaside town of Cromer, has an award-winning pier, beautiful beaches with rock pools, cliffs and great sandy expanses, and great independent places to eat out in town. If you fancy having a go at surfing, lessons and equipment hire can be booked at Glide Surf School. There is an excellent museum telling of the maritime history of the town. A visit to the impressive medieval church can include a climb up the tower for great views. The Pier has a Pavillion Theatre, the only one of its kind in the country, which stages traditional variety shows and live music events. With plenty of carnivals, markets and festivals, there’s always something going on in and around Cromer. For fresh, local seafood pop along the coast road towards Sheringham to Rocky Bottoms where they deliver local shellfish from pot to plate in an lovely setting. Or check out the new Fino Wine Bar, a neighbourhood restaurant serving modern British and European dishes.
Sheringham, another Blue Flag beach resort a few miles away, was originally a small fishing village but the arrival of the railway in 1887 turned it in to a popular destination for visitors far and wide. The Poppy Line still operates both diesel and steam engines which run from the pretty station in Sheringham centre along the coast through Weybourne and Kelling and on to Holt. There is plenty of family entertainment in Sheringham whatever the weather, including Splash tropical indoor pool, with fountains and a wave machine. Sheringham has carnivals and festivals all year round including the famous Crab & Lobster Festival and Sheringham Carnival. Sheringham also still has a large traditional market on Wednesdays and Saturdays.
