Cropton is a picturesque location in North Yorkshire with 58 woodland cabins situated in a grassy meadow, enclosed by the leafy woodlands of Cropton Forest. Beneath the trees are Silver Birch, Golden Oak, and Golden Oak Hideaway cabins, as well as the Forest Retreat, where you can shop, eat, drink, and meet the team! There is also an outdoor seating area with picnic benches and a children’s play area.
There are hundreds of walks you can take in North Yorkshire. Some begin from your cabin door at Cropton, some take you across miles of moorland or along dramatic coastal paths and others are climbs to waterfalls, rocky outcrops and magnificent views.
From gentle family trails in Cropton Forest to high speed mountain biking in Dalby Forest, every type of cycling is catered for in North Yorkshire. The National Cycle Network (Sustrans) Route 1 runs along the coastline and Route 165 runs through the Esk Valley to Whitby.
History and heritage
Please note: Only a select number of cabins are pet-friendly. Our pet-friendly cabins are specified under the room types. If you would like to bring a pet please select one of these options when making your booking. All pet-friendly cabins accept up to four pets, at a cost of 15 GBP per pet, per night. Please contact Forest Holidays after booking to add a pet to your booking. Additionally, we will contact you to update our systems with car registration and guest details.

Cropton is visited by many animal species including roe deer, badgers and hedgehogs. Amongst the many birds that visit, one that deserves a special mention is the turtle dove. Their numbers are in decline across the UK, but positive management in North Yorkshire, including Cropton Forest has meant that numbers in this region are now once again on the increase.

The story of Yorkshire is told throughout the county, from the Bronze Age burial mounds at Dalby Forest to the story of the Viking invasions at the Yorvik Viking Centre in York; from the beautiful Medieval ruins of Rievaulx Abbey at Helmsley to the 18th century splendour of Castle Howard. More recent history, from life in wartime Britain, is told in the Eden Camp Museum.
