Detached modern house within quiet village adjacent to woodland and ponds. Situated between Stirling and Callander and ideally located for exploring central Scotland and the Trossachs. We are a 2 hour drive from Oban, 30 mins from Glasgow and 40 mins from Edinburgh. There is a bus service to and from Doune and a train station in Dunblane 2 miles away. The village of Doune has a number of good dining places including Buttercup Cafe and Woodside Hotel. There’s also a Heritage visitor Centre which has a wealth of local history and information. Doune has an ancient and fascinating history some of which has merged with the modern film industry and Doune castle has featured in Monty Python, Game of Thrones, Outlander and other films. The local volunteer archaeological society has also uncovered an ancient Pictish stone which has been featured in documentaries due to it’s rarity.
The duck ponds are a woodland walk next to the property and offer gentle relaxed walks but for more serious hill walkers, Doune is only a 10 minute drive to the mountains.
I enjoy meeting new people and welcoming visitors to our beautiful village. I’m friendly, relaxed and very flexible so feel free to message with any requests or questions.
I do have a friendly dog and a cat but I’m respectful of anyone who prefers a pet free space.
There is a fridge and kettle in the room and a tray stocked with tea, coffee, pastries and biscuits etc. I put in a pint of milk and large bottle of water into the fridge.
I previously enjoyed a guest review rating of 9.8 out of 10 so keen to build my good reputation back up. Booking com automatically deletes reviews after 2 years which is why my rating has gone back to zero. I can be found on Trip Advisor where previous reviews still show.
Visitors to Doune love the location. It sits perfectly within central Scotland and ideal for exploring. Whether it’s Stirling, Glasgow or Edinburgh to the wilderness of the west coast and the islands.
Doune is an ancient village with documented studies on the Roman occupation, the Neolithic people who once lived here and the Medieval period with Doune castle. There is a large Neolithic standing stone in front of the property.
The surrounding countryside is mainly fields and woodland with established walks throughout. Doune duck ponds is inhabited by a variety of wildlife including some rare species of birds. The river is close by where salmon run regularly.
Visitors also enjoy the local shops and restaurants. Doune is relatively small but has everything you need. Dunblane is only 5 mins along the road and worth visiting, as is Callander to the west and only 10 minute drive.
Cycling is very popular here and there is an old railway line that has been converted to a cycle path that connects the towns.
We also have Doune Antiques and Arts Centre within walking distant of house which has a wonderful restaurant and a large variety of shops that sell antiques and a well stocked gift shop.
