There is a kids paddling pool, a Lido, a skate park and coastal walks that are great for dogs. In the summer a foot ferry runs from the harbour to beaches at East Mersea and Point Clear. The high street offers good food shops. There are a number of good pubs that offer food, or just a drink. There are some tea rooms and some good places to eat.
There is on street parking and it is normally very easy to find a space. No permit is needed. The bus stop is 100m or so from the house, busses run to Colchester and Clacton on sea.
