High Wray Farm is a 16th century farm house, owned by the National Trust, and is set amid the rolling hills on the western shores of Lake Windermere. The house is comfortably furnished retaining many original features and character, from here you can explore the quiet lanes and lake shore path down to Wray Castle, the more energetic could ramble over Claife and admire the views from Latterbarrow. All the rooms are warm and cosy with tea/coffee trays, home made cake is awaiting your arrival, (lemon drizzle cake and shortbread a speciality).
The Bed and Breakfast enterprise is run and managed by myself, (Sheila), with help from my husband Chris when he is around, he runs the farm, where we keep a flock of 350 sheep and 40 Beef breeding cows. I help out on the farm when time allows, especially when the sheep are lambing. We have two daughters Clare & Sarah, they both help out when they are around, although they both live away form here now and I do miss having them around, but it is always lovely to have guests staying in our home. Staying at High Wray Farm B&B is a homely experience that cannot be replicated at any other Hotel or B&B!
High Wray is a lovely little hamlet, and is a great little community, we are very fortunate at High Wray that we have not been taken over by holiday homes, we have a super community of residents that get together on social occasions, We live in a very beautiful location, the walking/cycling paths have been improved and upgraded making super walks down to the lake and around by Wray Castle (the castle is owned by the National Trust and is open to the public) the boat on lake Windermere docks at Wray Castle, it is possible to get the boat from here to Brockhole and Ambleside.
