Holland Park Farm is located in a valley just a short drive from Dartmoor. The house was built by us and has lovely views over the meadow, where you can sometimes be lucky to see Horace the hare or one of the beautiful red deer that visit us. There is a wood where you can walk, listen to the birds and hug a tree or just sit and relax. The house is an upside down house, with the bedrooms downstairs. There is a patio area accessible from the hall downstairs, where you can sit and enjoy the peace and quiet. Upstairs in the living room there is a vaulted ceiling and a large window that looks out over the meadow. There is also a deck where if the weather is right, you can have your breakfast and enjoy the view.
Charles, is a surveyor and retired Master Thatcher. His interests are old buildings and thatch. Anna is a farmer, whose interests are cooking, reading, travel and animals.
We had a B&B in Hatherleigh some years ago and thoroughly enjoyed meeting people and sharing information about Dartmoor and the surrounding areas.
During the summer months we offer a weekend thatching course, which involves a full day thatching on the Saturday and a half a day on Sunday. Supper is provided on Friday night, lunch, tea and copies cups of tea and coffee are provided throughout the day. Sunday lunch is provided.
The area is rural farmland. There are no shops but a convenience store is a couple of miles down the road at Whiddon Down Services. There are no immediate neighbours so it is very quiet. If the wind is in the right direction you may hear the traffic from theA30. There is a public footpath near the house which allows you to walk from the house to South Zeal or South Tawton. A short drive from the property means you can easily access Dartmoor from South Zeal or Belstone. Local attractions near by are Drogo Castle, Stone Lane Gardens the stannary town of Chagford, which has a great swimming pool open in the summer. Belstone is just a short drive, which offers easy access to Dartmoor. Lydford Gorge is about 30 minutes away, Tavistock 45 minutes. Exeter is 20 miles away but can be accessed by train from Okehampton, if you would prefer not to drive. The Exeter Cathedral and Cathedral Green are lovely.
