Welcome to Two Four Four in the picturesque Peak District. Built in the 1940’s by Ernest Hooley a financial fraudster and with a 20 minute walk into the centre of Matlock it’s an ideal base to explore the Derbyshire Dales. The house is ideal for dog owners with a fenced rear garden and several walks including the Peak Trail across the road.
Situated on the A6 (please be aware there is a certain amount of traffic noise associated with the location) the house is accessed along a path through the front garden and up two steps.
Please note there is no designated parking at the house but there is plenty of space on Stanton Moor View around the corner and luggage can be unloaded and loaded directly in front of the house.
Directly ahead of you through the front door are the (fairly steep) stairs to the first floor, these may not be suitable for people with mobility issues. (We also do not allow dogs upstairs).
To your right is the door into
the living room. With a three seater sofa, armchair and puffee, it’s a cosy place for an evening watching Netflix on the Freeview TV or enjoying the selection of games and books provided.
Through the living room is a modern, well equipped kitchen diner with a selection of tea, coffee, milk and sugar provided for your convenience.
From the kitchen is a secure, fenced back garden. With a bench for that early morning cuppa and a 4 seater dining table set for some alfresco dining.
On the first floor is the main bedroom with a European King sized bed, triple wardrobe, vanity table with stool and a bedroom chair. The view from the window looks across the valley.
The second bedroom has twin beds and a unit with cupboards and drawers.
The bathroom with an over-bath electric shower is situated between the bedrooms.
With a side access to the back garden to the rear of the property you can wheel your bikes through and store them in the garden or enter the house into the kitchen if you have wet coats and muddy boots!
Nineteen years ago, after having moved around the country for several years, myself and my family settled in Matlock. Whilst living and raising my children here I have come to the conclusion that it’s an amazing place. With plenty to do and see, it’s also an amazing place to visit too. Recently I completed an undergraduate degree and an MA at Derby University in creative writing and writing for performance so if any of my guests fancy doing a bit of writing you’ll definitely be inspired by all the area has to offer. And if I’m around, which most of the time I am you’re welcome to a chat about all things writing too.
With Matlock and Matlock Bath on your doorstep and within walking distance, you’ll never be stuck for somewhere to go anytime of the day or evening. With a train station and great bus links Matlock is ideal for public transport whatever your destination. A short drive away is the Peak District National Park with endless destinations inside Chatsworth House.
