These days, I work as a relief chef and host guests in my home, which I bought back in early 2020. Like many, I had to adapt during the pandemic – losing my job led me to open up my doors and offer rooms to travellers, professionals, and families visiting the area. The house has a relaxed, lived-in feel – it's not The Ritz, but I pride myself on offering great value, a warm welcome, and a genuine home-from-home experience. You’ll often find professionals staying during the week, and couples visiting loved ones at weekends. About Joe’s Place Joe’s Place is set in a quiet cul-de-sac with plenty of free on-street parking right outside. Just a 15-minute walk from Retford town centre and train station, it's ideally placed for both short stays and longer working visits. The house is a clean, comfortable, and relaxed working home, offering five guest bedrooms: Ground floor: One en suite king room and one en suite twin room, which includes a private lounge area with a sofa bed (suitable for a third guest). Upstairs: Two double rooms and one single room, sharing a bathroom. Guests have access to a spacious shared lounge/diner with TV (Amazon Prime & Netflix), and a large communal kitchen, with an individual fridge for each room, a range of cooking appliances, and full laundry facilities. The front and back gardens offer space to unwind, with a gas BBQ, fire pit, table tennis, and darts. Indoors, you'll find books, board games, chess, and cards to enjoy during your downtime. You’ll find supermarkets, pubs, and restaurants within a 10-minute walk, while Retford’s historic market square is about 15–20 minutes on foot — perfect for exploring local shops, cafés, and community events. The railway station is also just a 15-minute walk, offering direct mainline services to London and Aberdeen, with regular connections to Sheffield, Leeds, York, Lincoln, and the newly crowned city of Doncaster. For those with a car or an appetite for adventure, you’re well placed to explore the region. Within a 30-minute drive you’ll reach local gems like Clumber Park, Sherwood Forest, and Thoresby Hall — perfect for scenic walks, history, or just a peaceful day out in nature.
