Company information

We are a locals pub that is also enjoyed by people visiting the area, offering the tradition of a husband and wife opening their house to the public. We do not have a traditional bar. Instead, we have a tap room that guests come into to choose the drinks. Local ales are poured straight from barrels. The historic settle in front of our unique fireplace is a popular place for people to socialise, or in the summer months our large beer garden is a great sun trap. Locality is in everything we do. All our ales are local and vary from week to week. All our food is locally sourced from suppliers in the East of England. Our butcher is in the neighbouring village who make our burgers and sausages while also supplying us great quality meat that we use to produce delicious homecooked dishes. The layout of the pub is unique not only to the area, but to the country. People often pop in to take photographs of the building and to explore the character of the pub. Our fireplace is almost magical, and the Card Room has a hand painted picture that dates back hundreds of years. The Low House is our home which we feel honoured to live in.

Property information

The Kings Head, locally known as the Low House, is a rare gem of a pub. Nestled behind All Saints Church in the beautiful rural village of Laxfield, it offers a glimpse of a bygone world whilst serving the needs of its 21st century patrons. This fine old 16th century thatched pub has no bar but serves beer straight from the casks in the Tap Room. The interior is largely unchanged since the 19th Century with small drinking rooms, high backed settles and a warm open fire in the winter. In the Card Room, the Farmers’ table, the Settle and the dining room, there is plenty of space to relax and enjoy this unique Suffolk pub. The pub has a beautiful large garden, once the village bowling green, to be enjoyed when the weather is fine. Since April 2022 Marie and Gareth took ownership of this Free House pub with a focus on supporting small local breweries. The beers often include Earl Soham’s Victoria and Albert Ales and the Green Jack Brewery’s Golden Best and Trawlerboys. Beers can often be drank by the Humpty Dumpty and Nethergate Breweries. We serve delicious home cooked food for breakfast, lunch and dinner served in the pub and the garden.
