Prospect Place is on an historic cobbled courtyard which dates back to the 1700's. The old Blue Bell Inn, circa 1776, known later as The Bell Hotel is now the block of flats adjacent to Prospect Place. In it's hey day the Bell Hotel was one of Scarborough’s principal coaching inns. The Bell not only accommodated those who came to sample the Spa waters but was also the station for the prestigious daily Royal Mail coach to York, among other regular coaching services. . A reminder of the bustling coaching days can still be found in Prospect Place. Note the clipped brickwork on the end wall of No. 7, where careless coachmen sometimes misjudged the distance. The stables for the horses where situated where number 6 and 6A Prospect Place now stand. Together, the Bell Hotel and Prospect Place made up a unique 18th century enclave on the edge of the Old Town area.
