With a history that dates to before the Doomsday book, Tittleshall is thought to have played host to settlements since the Neolithic period. Today, it remains as a quiet, pretty example of traditional Norfolk village. Though sadly no longer active, the right to hold a weekly market granted by Edward I left its mark on the layout of the village and is likely the reason why Church Street widens out so dramatically just below All Saints Church.
Nearby Litcham is popular village located in the Brecklands, just six miles north of the market town of Swaffham, and about half an hour's drive away from both the cathedral city of Norwich and the glorious North Norfolk coastline. Litcham Common is situated to the south of the village and is a managed nature reserve consisting of 28 hectares of lowland heath and mixed woodlands. The Nar Valley Way long-distance footpath runs across the common, is never far from the river, and offers a variety of scenery along the country lanes and tracks. The path follows farm tracks through Lexham Estate and Castle Acre. A Bronze Age burial mound was discovered on the common, and Roman settlements with roads have been found just outside the village.
Just a few minutes drive away is outdoor recreation centre ExTREEme Adventure with quad bike trekking and army assault course. Also within easy reach is the exquisite Raynham Hall. Excellent places to eat nearby include The Dabbling Duck at Great Massingham, Sculthorpe Mill, The Crown Inn, Rudham, and the vibrant Ffolkes at Hillington. A little further away, Houghton Hall features an impressive permanent collection of contemporary sculptures displayed in the grounds, and often hosts major solo exhibits. HM The King's residence at Sandringham is a half an hour drive away, and leads to the charming coastal settlements of Snettisham, Heacham and Hunstanton.
