I live in Glenelg with my husband and daughter, two cats and 12 hens.
Glenelg is a beautiful and peaceful little village. Situated on the mainland opposite the Isle of Skye the village is the historic crossing point to the island and during the summer months there is a ferry service using the last turntable ferry in the world! The area is amongst the most picturesque on the west coast of Scotland , surrounded by hills this is an extremely good area for hillwalking and the famous Five Sisters of Kintail and Cuillins of Skye are a short drive away. Slightly off the beaten track Glenelg provides a quiet tranquility of its own (away from the more tourist congested areas) yet is an ideal base for exploring Skye and the surrounding places of interest. The brochs in Glenelg are well worth a visit, situated in a beautiful glen the scale and state of preservation of these 2000 year old buildings are something to behold. Other things to see are the ruins of the 1700's military barracks which was built to guard the crossing to Skye and no visit to this area would be complete without a visit to Sandaig, a beautiful cluster of white beach, grassy knolls and craggy rocks which was made famous by the Gavin Maxwell classic "Ring of bright water".
