Bishop’s Waltham is a medieval market town and has interesting places to visit such as the 12th century ruins of Bishop’s Waltham Palace, the museum, and the Roman Church. The nearby village of Portchester is home to Portchester Castle, which is regarded as the best preserved Roman Fort in Northern Europe.
Marwell Zoo is just a 15-minute drive away and Paulton Park, home of Peppa Pig World, is 30 minutes’ drive away.
The naval city of Portsmouth is 14 miles away, with its historic dockyard, home to Nelson’s Victory and The Mary Rose, along with waterside dining, extensive designer shops at Gun Wharf Quays and ferry trips to the Isle of Wight. On Portsdown Hill, over looking Portsmouth Harbour, there are 4 Forts, one of which is Fort Nelson, home to the Royal Armouries with over 19 acres of tunnels, ramparts and artillery to explore.
The historic cathedral city of Winchester less than 30 minutes’ drive. It boasts many historic attractions such as Winchester Cathedral, King Arthur’s Round Table and Winchester Science Centre and Planetarium. The city is also host to many events throughout the year including the Winchester Hat Fair, UK's longest running festival of street theatre, comedy, and music, and a Christmas market with outdoor ice rink. Wander round the cobbled streets of Winchester see you stumbling across some of the best boutique shops and home to a thriving food scene.
The port city of Southampton is 11miles away, with its links to the Titanic, cruise ships and aviation. SeaCity museum is the home to Southampton’s Titanic story and the history of this Saxon port. For Paddington Bear fans, we are lucky to have one of the 23 statues located outside Southampton Westquay Shopping Centre, Waterstones entrance.
