Converted at the end of 2017, The End Place is a self-contained cottage adjoining Moorhouse Cottage B&B. Downstairs is open plan, comprising a fully equipped kitchen and a living area with wood burning stove. A glass wall ensures uninterrupted views across Nidderdale Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty, as well as starry-night skyscapes. Upstairs opens out into a magical, fairy-lit, vaulted bedroom with a king size brass bed adorned with crisp White Company linen and includes en suite with shower.
Moorhouse is an 18th century, stone-built, lead miner's cottage, which lies on the cusp between wooded valley and open moorland in Nidderdale Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty. With views in all directions, it is ideal for a break away amidst rugged scenery, and is perfectly placed for access to local attractions such as Fountains Abbey, Brimham Rocks and the Yorkshire Dales National Park.
Jules and I moved to Nidderdale Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty in 2015, and love it. We'd often choose similar places to go for breaks and holidays, and now we live it every day.
We've also taken on a menagerie of farm animals: a few sheep, hens, ducks, and a couple of alpacas. Never dreamed I'd be interested in sheep, let alone own some. And do you know what? They're more entertaining than you'd think!
We both have a healthy interest in music, literature, film, theatre and visual arts, and our holidays often mix nature and culture. I tend to use music and literature to practise my Spanish, but the last couple of years the animals and the land have taken up most of our time, so other things have taken a back seat.
Jules is a fully qualified, very experienced and highly entertaining teacher of English as a Foreign Language. If you would like a course of English lessons as an add-on to your holiday, we'd be happy to discuss your requirements.
Just down the hill is Pateley Bridge (Great British High Street Awards, village winner - 2016), where you can stock up on award winning homemade pies, bread and cake, or wet your whistle in one of the local pubs. Or, if you prefer, a short walk directly from our door along the Bewerley Industrial Heritage Trail brings you to Coldstones Cut, where you can explore Yorkshire’s highest public sculpture, overlooking a working Quarry and with spectacular views of Nidderdale and beyond. Finish your walk by tasting the delights on offer at Toft Gate Barn Cafe, with delicious homemade dishes and a warm Yorkshire welcome from Caroline and Chris. Or simply relax and enjoy the antics of the alpacas and other animals on this unique and quirky small holding.
Within 30 minutes you could be enjoying the delights of the spar town of Harrogate, the cathedral town of Ripon, or Ilkley with its own literary and film festivals. Fountain’s Abbey (a World Heritage Site), Brimham Rocks and Stump Cross Caverns are also a must. Or simply get on your bike (this is the land of the Tour de Yorkshire) or put on your walking boots and explore the outstanding beauty of the Dales.
