The biggest thing that makes The Haven B&B stand out is it's setting and tranquility. The beauty of the garden and it's direct access to the Dee river, makes it a Gardner and Fisherman's haven.
I immigrated to Scotland five years ago when I sold my game farm in South Africa to come and be with my daughter and her twins. Having been a cattle and game farmer for forty years and widow for ten years, it just seemed the right time for a change!
Having run a game farm and lodge as well as my own feed factory for twenty years, I missed the constant arrival of guests coming on safari, so when my partner agreed to turn our spare room into a B&B, I was delighted!
The small village of Bridge of Dee which is surrounded by farmland, reminds me of my farm back in South Africa which was also surround by game, cattle, fruit and vegetable farms so I feel right at home here.
I love horses and used to breed my own endurance horses as well as take part in endurance events.
I am known as a very creative person, so am never bored. In between looking after my guests, I love painting, crocheting, knitting, spending time with my five year old twin grandchildren. I also love working in the garden and building things from scratch. I love cooking, baking and making my own sausages (boerewors) which is a South African sausage. I also love ballroom dancing!
The Haven is situated in a rural area, which makes it ideal for safe walking and cycling. Bicycles are available free or at a nominal fee from The Haven. Castle Douglas is three miles from The Haven, and is known as the Food Town in Dumfries & Galloway. Wonderful restaurants to chose from. The Coco Bean Chocolate Factory is a fun place to take children of all ages, and Zip lining and horse riding are all within 10 miles of The Haven.
