The Megabus is a 1970's Ford Hopper Bus that has been lovingly converted to a lovely comfortable hideaway nestled in the Devon countryside. There is a double bed and a table, wood burning stove and seating area that converts to a small single bed suitable for a child or teenager. Electricity is 12v via a solar panel for lighting and phone charging we also have 240v sockets in the bus and outside in the garden, there is no wifi at the bus although wifi is available at the cottage, 4g/5g is available in the field, bit patchy in the bus depending on network, we are working on wifi connection. Sarah and Ian have been hosting guests here for more than eight years now and have built a good reputation for the most relaxed and quiet getaway imaginable. Totally secluded on our working smallholding the Bus has mains water, a new power shower with a 900mm x 1200mm shower tray and kitchen with Gas Hob, Gas cooker and grill which are all inside the Bus with a composting toilet a few metres from the entrance. There is a self contained garden area with firepit and barbeque with picnic bench and seating area. Its one of the quietest spots that you can imagine with views across our 3 acre meadow where you can walk, run around and let off steam. All manner of birds and animals can be seen, Peregrine falcons live in the neighbourhood, we also see deer, foxes, hedgehogs, owls, woodpeckers and a huge variety of songbirds. We sometimes keep some sheep and lambs here in the summer, keep some chickens for eggs and grow vegetables on the plot next to the bus where we have our polytunnel. The bus is approximately 1.5m from the thriving market town of Tavistock.
The summer of 2024 will always be remembered because we finally got WIFI !!!!
Sarah has been hosting guests at the Megabus for over eight years now with her husband Ian. We have always live locally and have a wealth of knowledge of the local area. We love to travel in our VW van, cook local food and are passionate about healthy local produce with low food miles, we have also travelled further afield to Thailand, India, Sri Lanka, Morocco and lots of Europe. We also love to forage shellfish, seaweed and fungi and Ian is a keen fisherman.
1.5m from the thriving market town of Tavistock Mill Hill is a small hamlet built in the 1850's by the Duke of Bedford for the local miners and quarrymen, next to the AONB of the beautiful Tamar Valley mining area and fifteen minutes away from Dartmoor national park we live in a really peaceful and secluded area but with access to eateries and pubs within a ten minute drive. The bus is a short walk away from our cottage and is totally secluded.
