Welcome to our beautiful region
We take great care to ensure your safety in our properties, and we thank you for your cooperation and support with this. Please do not arrive and try to check in until the confirmed check in time.
Our office is open from:
Monday to Thursday 9:30am to 4:30pm, Friday & Saturday 9:30am to 5pm
Sunday – Closed
Please contact us if you need any help with your booking or during your stay.
You’ll find our team hard at work in a traditional, converted stone carriage building in sleepy Elterwater, at the gateway of the stunning Great Langdale Valley. From here, we help people find all sorts of charming local hideaways, from converted barns to rambling stone-built parsonages. So whatever sort of Lake District break you’re looking for, give us a shout and we’ll use our in-depth local expertise to find you a place you’ll love.
Phone us and you’ll be talking to Denise, Helen, Pip or Julie – all with years of knowledge about what makes our region great. Whether you’re looking for walks, cream teas, paddling, peddling or paragliding, they’ll point you in the right direction. And if you need anything sorting out during your stay, just give us a buzz and our team of locally based housekeepers, handymen and problem solvers will be on it in a flash.
Best wishes, and take care.
The team at Wheelwrights Cottages

The Pavilion is a beautiful property, furnished to a high standard and set in a small garden with overhanging terrace to enjoy the late summer sun.
This modern property accommodates four guests in two well appointed en-suite double rooms on the first floor, both of which have luxurious free standing baths.
The downstairs open plan dual aspect living room has a bright, airy feeling with the well-equipped kitchen providing a very high standard of fittings. In addition, there is a separate toilet and utility room downstairs, which provides plenty of storage.
This beautiful property is part of a private development which includes The Nest (sleeps two) and the River House (sleeps four). These can be rented together for larger groups up to ten people who want to enjoy the extra space and additional privacy of separate properties.
One well behaved dog is only allowed downstairs and strictly not on the soft furnishings.
Outside there is private parking with enough space for two cars and an enclosed garden area with open views down the River Brathay.

The bustling town of Ambleside is just a mile away and has become a popular tourist resort offering a diverse range of eateries from picnic takeaways to a Michelin starred restaurant. It boasts three cinemas, gift shops, outdoor clothing stores, hotels, cafes, pubs and a park with outdoor activities. It even has its own Roman ruins to explore, for those interested in history. Of course England’s largest lake, Windermere, is on the doorstep offering all the fun of a variety of water sports, lake cruises and is just a great place to sit and watch the world go by.
For those who wish to explore further afield, Ambleside is a connection point for buses to connect guests with the wider towns and outstanding scenery of this UNESCO World Heritage Site. Leaving the car behind and jumping on a bus to explore the National Park not only helps to look after the spectacular landscape but also gives passengers the opportunity to see it without the challenge of negotiating narrow, and sometimes steep, country lanes or search for parking at your destination. By sitting back watching the landscape go by, the journey becomes part of your adventure!
