Upper Buckton is a beautiful Georgian farmhouse, set amid stunning Herefordshire countryside and with views across the Teme valley. The house is decorated in a relaxed period style, and our bedrooms have very comfortable beds, good TVs, DAB radios etc. We offer a warm welcome - no standing on ceremony here! - and tea and cake is offered on arrival. Breakfasts are plentiful with a wide choice and feature fresh eggs from our four hens. Our 3/4 acre garden is a particular feature and we encourage guests to walk around and sit in it - we provide sun loungers and deck chairs - and breakfast is served on the verandah in warmer weather. We are flexible as to guests' needs and want to give you the best stay we can.
Jonathan runs the front of house, which means welcoming guests, providing tea, and cooking breakfast. Mary looks after the rooms an laundry. We love having people to stay - Upper Buckton is a large house and it really comes alive when full of people. Our visitors have such divers lives but the one thing they have in common is that they are always interesting - we love finding more about them and sharing our lives too. We actively encourage guests to wander around the garden, walk across our fields to the river and to spend as long as they like during the day - we don't expect you to be out all the time!
Guest enjoy walking from our doorstep, whether onto the Herefordshire Way or down to the Teme, which is just beyond our garden. A short distance away are the Carding Mill Valley, the Long Mynd, the Clee Hills, the Clun Valley, all beautiful and with plenty of walks. Slightly further afield is the Elan Valley with its five reservoirs and the Brecon Beacons national park.
The picturesque & vibrant town of Ludlow, famous for its daily market, pubs and eateries as well as its castle, is just 20 mins away; Hereford with its medieaval cathedral is 45 minutes and Tudor/Georgian Shrewsbury under an hour. Herefordshire is famed for cider making and you can follow the Cider trail and sample the goodies or take the Black & White trail around the many Tudor villages of the Marches.
Castles abound - five within 20 minutes of us - as do historic houses and gardens such as Stokesay Castle, Croft Castle, Hergest Croft gardens, Hampton Court, Berrington Hall & Stockton Bury gardens. There are three excellent pubs within 10 minutes, a classy fish & chip shop, garage with the cheapest fuel for miles, well-stocked village shop and an ale house (no food but great beer and cider).
