A homestay is a form of hospitality where guests share a residence with a local of the area to which they are traveling. In this homestay, guests have sole access to the top floor of the house, which has two spacious, comfortable and clean double bedrooms and a large private bathroom with walk in shower. Rooms have TV, free tea & coffee making facilities and guests share a small fridge-freezer for storing food, snacks and drinks.
Guests have shared access to the dining room, a basement games room with projector (accessed via the dining room), courtyard garden and a well equipped kitchen, where they can prepare meals on site. Please note that the Homestay Suite accommodates guests over the age of 18.
Donna is a low key live-in host who is keen to ensure that you have a relaxing and enjoyable stay. She tends to be a 'hands off' and will leave you to enjoy your stay in peace. That said, she is always at the end of her mobile phone and will happily answer any questions you may have during your stay, including insider knowledge about the best local places to visit. Donna’s hobbies include sea swimming (all year round!) and playing the djembe (West African drum). Please do give an estimated time of arrival when you book so that she can ensure she is present to welcome you.
Westgate-on-Sea is one of the hidden gems of Thanet. A small town just over a mile from Margate, it has two sandy Blue Flag beaches - St. Mildred's Bay and Westgate Bay - both with seaside cafes. There is a surprisingly wide range of shops in our town centre (Station Road and part of St. Mildred's Road), including launderette and dry cleaners, supermarket, takeaways, restaurants, cafes and bars. We also have the popular Carlton Cinema, just a stone's throw from the house.
Westgate-on-Sea is a three minute train ride from Margate main sands (10-12 minute bus ride) or take a leisurely 35-40 minute stroll along the seafront. In Margate, you can have lunch at the numerous cafés and bars, mooch around the independent shops, visit the Turner Contemporary and other local galleries or just chill out on the main sands. For those who enjoy longer walks, try the Viking Coastal Trail from Westgate-on-Sea right round to Pegwell Bay just outside Ramsgate. If walking is not your thing, the house is 1 minute from the local train station, with trains to Ramsgate via Margate (3 mins) and Broadstairs (10 mins) and to London via Whitstable, Faversham and Rochester. Change at Margate for trains to Dover and Folkestone for ferries or trains to France and Canterbury, the famous cathedral city.
