Right in front of the house, you’ll find a sandy beach, ideal for building sandcastles, rock pooling at low tide, or playing beach games together. From the doorstep, you can follow scenic coastal paths north through woodlands and wildflower meadows to the pretty sailing village of Kippford, home to two family-friendly pubs and a lovely tea room. Head the other way to Castle Point and the clifftop paths toward Sandyhills, where you’ll be rewarded with breathtaking views.
The local area is full of outdoor adventures. Spot wildlife on the Rough Island bird sanctuary (accessible at low tide) or visit the RSPB Reserve at Mersehead. Enjoy a round of golf at the nearby courses of Colvend and Southerness, or experience the world-class mountain-biking trails in Dalbeattie Forest, part of the famous 7Stanes network.
For family days out, there’s plenty to see and do. Discover Sweetheart Abbey and the historic Corn Mill at New Abbey, or explore the Threave Estate near Castle Douglas, with its castle, gardens, and nesting ospreys. Little ones will love Ernespie Farm Park, packed with both indoor and outdoor fun, and the colourful Artists’ Town of Kirkcudbright offers galleries, events, gin distillery, a Dark Space Planetarium and creative workshops throughout the year.
