Cavo Ponta is a unique seafront retreat on the unspoiled southern coast of Crete, set on a dramatic peninsula between the Libyan Sea and the foothills of Mount Kofinas. Here, traditional stone-built apartments and bungalows blend harmoniously with the landscape, each offering both sea and mountain views from a private terrace.
Our location is steeped in history and natural beauty — just steps away from a natural Minoan harbour, close to ancient monasteries, Byzantine chapels, and sacred caves used for worship since antiquity. The coastline features quiet sandy and pebble beaches, turquoise waters, and hiking trails with panoramic views.

周辺エリアの情報
Cavo Ponta is set in Agios Ioannis, Kapetaniana — a remote and spectacular coastal village in South Crete, where the mountains meet the Libyan Sea. The area is known for its peace, wild beauty, and authentic character, far from mass tourism.
The village beach has one small taverna/café, right by the water, serving fresh local dishes and offering a friendly meeting point for visitors and locals alike.
Nearby attractions include a natural Minoan harbour, the 14th-century Cave Monastery of Agios Ioannis (St. John) carved into the cliffside above the sea, Byzantine monasteries, and sacred caves that have been places of worship since antiquity. Hikers will enjoy trails to the peak sanctuary of Mount Kofinas, as well as coastal paths and hidden coves. The area is part of the NATURA 2000-protected Asterousia mountains, home to rare plants, birds of prey, and dramatic cliffs.
Getting here is part of the adventure — the final 7 km from Kapetaniana to Agios Ioannis is along an unpaved mountain road. It’s perfectly safe with care, but we recommend at least a small 4×4 vehicle for comfort and easier access.
Guests love the neighborhood for its untouched landscapes, crystal-clear waters, and star-filled night skies. It’s a place to slow down, explore nature, and experience Crete’s wilder side — with the sea always in view and the mountains just behind you.
