To start with, the views are the best anywhere. 180+ degree, unobstructed, overlooking Elafonisi beach... pink sand and all. The sun sets in your field of view every day. I leave the windows open at night and listen to the waves on the beach and the goat bells tinkling all night. This is "the" relaxation location. No neighbors (just one house next door, and its not a rental, and I can count on one hand the number of times I've seen them in almost two years) to upset your vacation Moe Joe. The Pergola is totally enclosed with huge sliding windows. You can sit, like I'm doing now, watch thunder storms/lightning/rain and sip your coffee while the fire warms your back. I put a granite bathtub at the end of the deck (the hot water heater doesn't fill it to the top... so its a luke warm bubble bath... I'm looking at buying a Jacuzzi and then it'll be the bomb). The house is built on old ruins at the top of a little rise. You can see where in the distant past people processed their grain harvest by walking livestock in a circle with the wind blowing (that's like twenty feet out the door). I hope you come enjoy my home. Your always welcome.
Hello, my nickname is Hondo. I was working in Iraq and found this property for sale online. I immediately flew out and fell in love with Crete all over again. I had visited while in the Army 25 years ago, and it left an impression that I never got over. When I stayed for my first visit, there was no water or power, in late March 2018. I huddled over a camp fire for three weeks and enjoyed almost every minute of it. It's changed allot in under two years. I sit here now typing this, sipping my hot coffee, and watching the waves crash on the beach below. My dream eventually is to live here full time and win the lottery... ;) So enjoy my home while its available to rent. It'll change your life. Best wishes and safe travels.
Elafonisi beach is rated continuously as one of the top ten beaches in the world, over and over. After you visit, you will wonder why its not number one all the time. The Cretan Trail goes right below the house, so if you like hiking... there yah go. It has the most beautifully crystal clear water. I go snorkeling right off from the house. If you follow the Cretan trail, you can be down at the beach in 15 min taking your time. Or if your like me, and want to hit the restaurant either coming or going, take the car around. Now, this is important, Elafonisi's tourist season is from the beginning of April to the end of November, and some places have shorter seasons. This has pluses and minuses. It's 65 degrees today and not a single soul on the beach, that I can see from the villa as I type this(Dec13), unbelievable. But you wont have the selection of restaurants to go eat at. The market right at the end of my drive is open year round, and you can get essential food and supplies there. My favorite time of year is the off season, but I don't like crowds. I guess in the summer a "luke warm" bath is a plus.... Ask me any questions you might have, and have an awesome day!
