A beautiful beach in the "back garden" makes this property unique. Before midday and after 7 p.m you'll most probably have the beach to yourself, even in August. The house, with its caracteristic traditional architecture was initially intended to be a church but was never finished as such. This was in the 1770's during the russian-turkish war. The russians were hiding part of their fleet in Naoussa bay. There is a tiny museum in nearby Monastiri beach dedicated to this era. Later on, the house was the centre of a working farm and has been in the family for ages. At some point the centre of the building collapsed, leaving two seperate buildings but just one of them is inhabited.
The property is planted with vine, bamboo, fig and mulberry trees. It has extensive views to Naoussa bay and beyond, and is surrounded by barley fields. The place gives you a sense of serenity and allows you to become part of nature again. It is remote and at the same time close to everything. Naoussa, the picture perfect fishing village is only a 10 min. drive away.
I love this place. The smell of the plants, the bird sounds, the everchanging colours around you are so relaxing. The water being so close is the ultimate luxury. In June-July mulberry picking, making a jam out of it straight away and then going to the sea to clean off the red juices is one of my favorite past-times. The most beautiful hour of the day is at dusk. Just sit in the front terrace with a drink in your hand looking at the sea and you'll understand what I'm talking about. Once here you'll fall in love with this unique part of Greece, like the rest of us.
Monastiri and Kolymbithres, two of the most beatiful Paros beaches are very close to the house.
You can see the old monastery that gave its name to the beach from the double bedroom balcony. Monastiri is an organised beach always sheltered from wind and waves. It has a beach bar, an open-air cinema and a theatre for live concerts.
Kolymbithres, at a 10-15 min walking distance is another organised beach, famous for its rock formations. You can have lunch or dinner in one of the 3 tavernas close to the beach.
The area offers beautiful hiking opportunities. You may clilb the hill in the back of the property and watch the sun set, or walk beyond Monastiri to the old lighthouse at the northern end of the island.
