Gruž is Dubrovnik’s suburb grown around the large bay that spreads on the west side of the town.
In the way it is the main entrance to Dubrovnik – all ferries, cruise ships and buses arrive in Gruž as the main port/harbour, ferry terminal and bus station are all located there.
In Gruž you will find many restaurants, cafe bars, pharmacy, shopping center, many small shops, large trade center Konzum, small park with a playground, tourist information center ... In Gruž is also the biggest Dubrovnik open market on which every day you can buy fresh fruit and vegetables and various fresh fish.
In the old days Gruž was kind of summer retreat bay of wealthy inhabitants of Dubrovnik. If you take a walk along the main street, you can still see couple of former summer mansions – the remains of old times.
