The dark volcanic sand found on the beach here is a fascinating relic of history—formed when Mount Rinjani Tua (Mount Samalas) erupted violently in 1257, marking the largest volcanic eruption in the last 7,000 years. This eruption sculpted the 25-metre cliffs right next to our property, which you can walk up to get a beautiful panoramic view. From the top, you can enjoy views of Mount Rinjani on one side, the Gili Islands on the other, and catch the majestic silhouette of Mount Agung from Bali appearing at sunset.
