Although we, the management of Umah Ilu, are from Bali, our family has kept close relationships with the local community in Nusa since decades. During a fishing trip somewhen in the 80s, our friends on the island, were telling us about the cultural heritage that was so specific to Nusa Penida and different from Bali. Those traditions were fading, they told us. First but foremost, how the houses were build on Nusa Penida. Those conversations have lead us wanting to preserve a piece of that culture and to construct contemporary versions of those traditional houses of Nusa Penida, namely: Rumah Paon, Gunung Rata and Rumah Meten. We've gathered those mastering the old construction ways and together with the local master builders and woodcarvers, create Umah Ilu.

Umah Ilu is a beautiful retreat at Nusa Penidas North side. Located at the slope of the hills, offering a mesmerizing view over the ocean and the Island of Bali. The villas recreate the traditional Nusa Penida houses that were called Umah Ilu with thick limestone walls and thatched roofs. Kelinking Beach) or the West-side (e.G Diamond Beach), while allowing for convenient arrival departure as Umah Ilu lies close to the harbour.
