Welcome to our homestay, a serene retreat nestled in the heart of rural India, surrounded by traditional mud houses, organic farmlands, and Aravalli hill views. Built with natural materials and local craftsmanship, the property reflects the authentic charm of village architecture—cool in summer, warm in winter. Our rooms are simple yet clean and comfortable, designed to offer an experience, not just a stay. We practice sustainable living—solar lights, home-cooked food from our farm-grown produce, and minimal plastic use. Guests often join us in the kitchen, on the fields, or for evening tea under the neem tree. The calm here is real—no city noise, only birds, cattle, and temple bells. We're not a hotel; we are a home, sharing the richness of rural life with respect, warmth, and honesty. Ideal for travelers seeking meaning, peace, or cultural depth—not just comfort. This is the soul of India, unfiltered.
I'm Devraj Panwar, a former engineer who left the city life to follow my passion. I started Viraaj Homestay in my hometown near Yamunotri Dham to offer guests an authentic, peaceful Himalayan experience rooted in local culture and warmth.
Nestled in Bariya village near Hanuman Chatti, Viraaj Homestay lies at the gateway to the sacred Yamunotri pilgrimage. Hanuman Chatti—situated at 2,401 m—is the traditional stopover before the trek to Yamunotri, surrounded by pine forests, river confluences, and calm mountain air.
From there, pilgrims trek through dense deodar, cross waterfalls, and ascend roughly 13 km to reach Yamunotri Temple, one of the revered Chota Char Dham shrines at 3,293 m. Along this path lie spiritual landmarks like Divya Shila and Surya Kund—the sacred hot spring where devotees cook rice as prasad.
Nature lovers residing at Viraaj Homestay can also explore treks to Darwa Top and Dodi Tal from Hanuman Chatti—serene mountain escapes away from the pilgrimage trail. Further out, the famous hill station Barkot offers scenic views, quiet cafés, and white-water rafting along the Yamuna—an excellent stop before or after the pilgrimage.
The region blends spiritual depth, trekking opportunities, and untouched nature. From mountain-view walks to local temple rituals, this neighbourhood promises an authentic Himalayan experience.
