Svansholl was settled by a Norse sorcerer in the Viking Age (910 AD) and has been family owned for over 11 centuries. At Svanshóll you can reconnect with nature and experience the more authentic parts of Iceland, soaking in a private geothermal hot-spring or experiencing the tranquil riverside canyon, young aspen forest or simply visiting the cherry-berry farmhouse.
Across generations, the Svansholl Family is known for creativity and large amount of activity and work. Our family entrepreneurship is not limited to any one business, but rather encompasses the entrepreneurial activities of the family as a whole. We see us a children of nature, so many of our projects are nature orientated and often a bit out of the ordinary. I mean who else would start a cherry berry farm just below the Arctic Circle?
Most popular is our private hot-spring and cherry-berry house on location, but on our website you will the main features of the area to give you a better view of the activities you can find during the summer and winter season suitable for all ages and everyone should find something to their liking.
Our natural hot spring
Right above our greenhouse is a trail up the field to our natural geothermal hots spring (38-40°C). It is accessible by foot all year around, day and night.
Svansholl’s cherry berry farm
One of the family’s hobby is growing fruit trees such as cherries, apples, plums and pears, which is highly unusual this close to the arctic circle. The cherry-berry green house at Svansholl is the most popular tourist destination between June-August. Most popular are the cherry trees that bloom in late-April and then the cherries are ready to be sold in July. The fruit is grown in a cold greenhouse with about 50 trees. It's fun to visit the greenhouse and see what the family is doing, but they also grow spices, rucola, cabbage, beans and all kinds of berries (blueberries, blackcurrants, raspberries, gooseberries, honeyberries), flowers of many kind and more.
