Ciao! We’re Ulia and Luca – lovers of small-town charm, local festivals, and good wine 😉
We live the sweet life in the Roman Hills with Lola (our lovely black lab), 16 cats, 2 donkeys, and 4 goats.
Since 2009, we’ve been running WIKI HOSTEL COLIVE in Zagarolo – a well-known boutique hostel and a vibrant meeting point for global travelers and digital nomads. Alongside the hostel, we also run a social farm, which doubles as an Animal-Assisted Therapy center (yep, real pet therapy!).
We’re experienced local hosts, active in many community projects focused on sustainability, intercultural exchange, and local development.
After years living between northern Italy and abroad, we’re now happy to welcome you here in the beautiful Roman Hills!
We’ll gladly share our best tips to explore Zagarolo and discover the nearby villages of the Prenestini Mountains and the Castelli Romani.
History, traditions, romantic alleys, great wine, local flavors, and cheerful festivals are all waiting for you — just 30 minutes from the heart of Rome!
Zagarolo is a typical Renaissance village charmingly set on a picturesque tuff hill between two green valleys. It features a vibrant local community, romantic alleys, Roman fountains, medieval gates, and arches with Roman and pre-Roman elements. Its ancient castle, Palazzo Rospigliosi, is home to the Toy Museum, the public Library, and many cultural events, as well as 'Spazio Attivo', the innovation hub of the Lazio Region.
The origins of Zagarolo are rooted in the legend of the Gabinii who escaped the destruction of the ancient pre-Roman city of Gabii.
The local community is at the heart of a rich calendar of cultural events and traditional festival, such as the tasty food festivals of ‘Tordo Matto’ and ‘Festa del Pane’, the summer patronal feast of ‘San Lorenzo’, Christmas and New Year markets and celebrations, the colorful Zagarolo Carnival, and the winter festivities of Saint Anthony. Saturday mornings host the weekly city market, while Sunday mornings feature the healthy and delicious zero-km ‘Farmers’ Market’. On the first Sunday of every month, Palazzo Rospigliosi opens its doors to welcome visitors for free to the museum, exhibitions, and concerts.
Every year, on the 1st weekend of October, don’t miss the amazing Zagarolo Wine Fest – the “Sagra dell’Uva,” the most important event celebrating local wine culture. For 3 days, the heart of the village comes alive with wine parades, rustic taverns, music, and popular traditions!
Local restaurants, delis, farmers, and winemakers invite you to discover and taste traditional recipes, delicious specialties, and typical products like Tordo Matto and Ciambelle al Vino, along with many fine local and DOC wines.
