ABOUT ME: “Welcome, my name is Giacomo, and I’m very pleased to meet you”. My wife Mary and I live in Rome, where I was raised, went to school and eventually studied medicine while cultivating my many other passions: motorbike and bicycle trips, skiing and sailing, books and films, tinkering and gardening. I love travelling and discovering authentic places, meeting the people who live in them and sampling the local cuisine and culture. My greatest pleasure, though, is to invite friends into my home to cook for and entertain them. That’s why I finally decided to make hospitality my chosen profession, and I have my own special approach: I choose only the homes in which I would truly have wanted to live. Charming homes, tastefully furnished by their owners in captivating settings, where I personally welcome visitors from all over the world to make them feel at home. These homes come to life with every new set of guests; animated and enriched by this diversity of voices and experiences they only grow more beautiful. Why not come and see?
THE SURROUNDINGS: The house is located 1.5km from the town center (Porto Santo Stefano).
Argentario is famous for its beautiful rocky sea, wide beaches and numerous coves.
The splendid Cala Grande can be reached by renting a boat in town or by taking a small road that branches off from the Via Panoramica. The beach is pebbly and there are no establishments. Shortly after Cala Grande, along the panoramic road, you come across Cala Moresca from which you can enjoy a wonderful view, and many others all around the promontory.
Two long beaches connect Monte Argentario to the continent: Giannella and Feniglia. On these sandy beaches you will find numerous Resorts but there are also free access areas. Feniglia is in the South and has an amazing pine forest that can be visited by bicycles that can be rented on site.
In Porto Santo Stefano, and in particular in via Roma, there are many shops where you can find everything you need: bars, pharmacies, bakeries with exquisite local products. Porto Santo Stefano is a cheerful seaside village with an ancient shipyard where you can see splendid sailing ships.
On Tuesdays you can have fun visiting the local market with all sort of things.
Along the first bay of the port there are several stalls of very fresh fish. There are excellent restaurants and pizzerias. The town is dominated by its famous fortress, an ancient castle from the 16th century, now used for exhibitions organized by the Municipality or private parties. The famous and spectacular historic sailing regatta is really worth seeing. In Porto Santo Stefano there are also excellent diving schools.
