Jordan’s Wadi Rum is one of the most beautiful deserts in the world. It is filled with unbelievable rose sandstone mountains (‘Jebels’), canyons and dunes. Wadi Rum itself was made famous by the exploits of Lawrence of Arabia during World World I, later becoming the setting for the film of the same name. With its many peaks and variety walks that offer endless trekking and climbing possibilities, Wadi Rum is now acknowledged as one of the world’s foremost desert climbing and hiking areas. It is truly a magical landscape for your adventure and your soul. Wadi Rum has been inhabited by many human cultures since prehistoric times, with many cultures–including the Nabateans, who left their mark in the form of rock paintings, graffiti, and temples. In the West, Wadi Rum may be best known for its connection with British officer T. E. Lawrence, who passed through several times during the Arab Revolt of 1917–18. In the 1980s one of the rock formations in Wadi Rum was named “The Seven Pillars of Wisdom” after Lawrence’s book penned in the aftermath of the war, though the ‘Seven Pillars’ referred to in the book have no connection with Rum.
