Greetings! My name is Hamid, and I reside in a small area called Merzouga, right next to the Sahara Desert. Desert Backpackers Hostel is a cozy and welcoming place designed for travelers, adventurers, and backpackers who wish to experience the desert in an authentic and affordable way. With a private room for up to 3 guests and a shared room for 4 travelers, the hostel also offers a living room, a fully equipped kitchen, a bathroom with shower, and a terrace overlooking the dunes. It is the perfect base to explore Merzouga and its surroundings. Here, we combine the simplicity of Berber life with the comfort every traveler needs. Beyond accommodation, we help our guests create unforgettable desert experiences – from camel rides and jeep tours to magical nights under the starry sky. The Neighborhood of Desert Backpackers Hostel Takoujt is a quiet and traditional Berber village located right at the edge of the Erg Chebbi dunes in Merzouga. From here, you can step out of your door and find yourself surrounded by the golden sands of the Sahara. The neighborhood offers a peaceful atmosphere where you can truly experience desert life. You will see local families living in the traditional way, with mud-brick houses, gardens, and livestock, giving you an authentic glimpse into Berber culture. Despite its calm setting, Takoujt is close to everything you need – small grocery shops, local cafés, and easy access to camel tours, desert excursions, and jeep adventures. The village is also a perfect spot to enjoy breathtaking sunsets and sunrises over the dunes, or simply relax on the terrace under a sky full of stars.
