The resort cities of Tulum and Playa del Carmen are within a half-hour drive. The impressive jungle ruins of Coba are less than an hour and Chichen Itza is good for a day trip with a stop in the colonial city of Valladolid. A visit to Siann Kaan Biosphere includes the ruins of Muyil and a boat trip along the canals that the ancient Maya dug through the mangrove and lagoons to the sea.

Like many of the homeowners in Akumal, we were drawn here forty years ago when Akumal was mostly a diving resort, one of the premier cave diving locations in the world.
