About the Neighborhood
Salchi is a secluded cove on Oaxaca’s Pacific coast: a quiet, palm-lined bay with a largely untouched beach, a small Canadian/expat presence, a few boutique hotels, and a handful of simple restaurants. It’s the place people choose when they want the sound of waves, starry nights, and very little else.
What guests love
• Peace & privacy: low foot traffic, wide beach, big skies.
• Nature on your doorstep: sunrise swims, pelicans cruising the shore, sea-turtle sightings in season (nesting rules apply).
• Unplugged rhythm: mornings on the sand, golden sunsets from your terrace.
Food & essentials
• A small selection of local eateries in Salchi/Cuatunalco; more variety in nearby beach towns and in La Crucecita (Huatulco’s center) for supermarkets, pharmacies, and ATMs.
• The airport (HUX) is ~30 min away; the nearest full supermarket is ~40 min.
Getting around
• A car makes life easy for beach-hopping and errands. Taxis are common and reasonably priced; basic public transport exists but runs infrequently and isn’t ideal for luggage or late nights.
Day trips (easy drives)
• Huatulco’s bays & National Park: boat days, snorkeling, calm coves.
• Puerto Ángel / Zipolite / Mazunte: beach town vibes, cafes, yoga, sunsets.
Good to know
• Pacific currents can be strong—swim with caution and follow local advice.
• The area is quiet and residential; nightlife is limited.
• Cash is still handy at smaller spots; cards accepted inconsistently.
• Roads are coastal and winding; allow extra time after dark.
In short: Salchi is for travelers who prize tranquility, ocean air, and slow days. If you’re chasing clubs and crowds, aim elsewhere; if you’re chasing rest and saltwater, you’ve found the right bay.
