Eric and I split our time between our home here in Izamal and the US, interspersed with as much travel as possible. I've managed to visit 52 countries so far & will hop on a plane at the drop of a hat. We fell in love with the Yucatan many years ago, the history, culture and the friendliness of the local people made Izamal an obvious choice for us. We decided to share our peaceful slice of paradise with others looking to enjoy this magical place.
Izamal, known as the “Yellow City" and the "City of Three Cultures" is a place where the ancient, colonial and modern eras blend seamlessly. One of Mexico’s Pueblos Mágicos, from the golden glow of the Convento de San Antonio de Padua to the towering Kinich Kakmó Pyramid, Izamal offers a journey through time that few places can match.
A major religious and political center long before the Spanish arrived, the city was dedicated to the sun god, Kinich Kakmó, and was a prominent pilgrimage site where Mayans from across the Yucatán came to worship. It is still home to several large pyramids today.
While Otoch Ixchel offers a serene retreat, we encourage you to step out and discover the treasures of the Yucatán. Izamal itself is a marvel, but the surrounding region is filled with opportunities for adventure. Visit nearby archaeological sites like Chichén Itzá, Uxmal and Ek Balam, swim in the crystal-clear waters of our many cenotes, or take a day trip to the colonial charm of Valladolid or the vibrant streets of Mérida.
We welcome those who are eager to explore the history that lives in the cobblestones, who want to feel the spirit of the Yucatán in every step they take. Our hacienda serves as the perfect starting point for your exploration
