The newly built Red Cat in Bed is located in the center of the Groningen mound village Eenrum, between the church and the mill, and directly on the Pieterpad.
The Studio (1 bedroom, bathroom) and The Family Studio (2 bedrooms, living room, bathroom) are under the same roof as our own, newly built house (2023), but have their own entrance. This way we are always nearby if you need us.
We have tried to pay attention to sustainability when building our house and furnishing the rooms. Natural materials were chosen to insulate the house and there is cork on the floor. The house does not use natural gas and generates energy through solar panels. Our breakfast consists almost entirely of local products. We also follow the seasons as much as possible.
Our coffee shop Red Cat Coffee will soon open around the corner.
We are Sacha and Ruben - old friends, but later also more than that. We met when we worked for the Dutch Film Festival in Utrecht. Via Rotterdam, Amsterdam and Sweden we eventually ended up in North Groningen, in the beautiful Eenrum. We love movies, animals and good food. We have two cats: Freja (inspiration for the Red Cat name) and Loki. They are not allowed in the Studio and the Family Studio, but you will probably encounter them somewhere around the house.
Eenrum
Eenrum is a small mound village in the municipality of Het Hogeland, about twenty kilometers above the city of Groningen. Eenrum is known as an artistic, idiosyncratic village with a rich history.
Pieterpad
Eenrum is the first village that hikers of the Pieterpad pass after leaving Pieterburen. Especially in the summer season, dozens of hikers pass through the village on their way to Winsum and Groningen.
Winsum
Winsum was named the most beautiful village in the Netherlands by the ANWB in 2020. A lovely village to stroll through for an afternoon and sit on a terrace. Winsum is easily accessible by bus 65 from Eenrum. You can get there in five minutes by car.
Groningen
Groningen city is only half an hour by car; a little longer by public transport. With the Forum, the Groninger Museum and the Oosterpoort, no one with their cultural heart in the right place will be bored. Groningen has countless terraces and many international restaurants.
Schiermonnikoog via Lauwersoog
The ferry service to the island of Schiermonnikoog is only 20 minutes by car (and over an hour by bike) from Red Cat in Bed. As you sail past a sandbank full of seals, your destination comes closer: Schiermonnikoog. One of the wildest, most unspoiled places in the Netherlands. Shaped by sea currents, wind and drifting sand. And no matter how small it is, it is rich in landscapes. Dunes, beach, forests, polders and mudflats shape and colour the island. It is not without reason that the entire island has been declared a National Park. In addition to nature, the island also has plenty of activities, shops and restaurants to offer, in short: a lovely day guaranteed!
