SWEETS hotel is a one-of-a-kind hotel dotted across Amsterdam in 28 different bridge houses, built along and on Amsterdam’s canals between 1673 and 2009, each one distinctively designed in the architectural style of its building period. Due to centralization of bridge control, the bridge houses lost their original purpose of working space for the city’s bridge keepers. SWEETS hotel reuses this industrial heritage by transforming the bridge houses, all connected by Amsterdam’s waterways, into stand-alone hotel suites with unique interiors, designed with the architectural history of the tiny building in mind. Due to their unique locations, all bridge houses offer a spectacular panoramic view across Amsterdam's canals.

A comfortable former bridge house from 1975 with a panoramic view of an old Dutch windmill along a canal, located perfectly between the historic towns of North Holland and the lively city centre of Amsterdam. Nearby, in IJdoornlaanbrug's neighbourhood of Amsterdam Noord, you'll find the most popular alternative hotspots loved by locals. Bridge house IJdoornlaanbrug is only a few minutes by foot from metro station 'Noord', from where you'll be at Amsterdam Central Station in only 8 minutes. The IJdoornlaanbrug (bridge) and its bridge house were designed in 1975 by Dirk Sterenberg, in the 'Structuralism' style. The bridge house has noise level 'medium' and inside this local icon, you will find a cosy hotel room with everything you need, including a comfortable double bed, a bathroom, a pantry and a seating area with soft cushions and a roll-around table. All sorts of basics like towels, body wash, dishes, cutlery, coffee and tea are provided as well - feel free to use them! On every second day of your stay, our housekeeping team drops by on electrical cargo bikes for a basic cleaning check and to supply fresh towels.

Although it’s tempting to stay seated in the cosy cushions of bridge house IJdoornlaanbrug, many Amsterdam and North-Holland must-sees are nearby, so step out the front door and explore! IJdoornlaanbrug is the perfect starting point to visit the Zaanse Schans and the historic towns of Volendam, Marken, Edam and many more. To visit Amsterdam's city centre, just hop on the metro nearby and find yourself strolling on the lively streets just minutes later. With all those travelling options, you'd almost forget that the neighbourhood of IJdoornlaanbrug, Amsterdam Noord, is absolutely worth a trip too. De Ceuvel for example, one of our favourite creative and sustainable hotspots/restaurants/cafés, is only a 10-minute bike ride away.
